As promised GeoHot has released blacksn0w today, this is the only unlocking tool available for 05.11.07 baseband. This is like a huge relief for all those users who have inadvertently upgraded their unlock iPhones using iTunes and ended up on locked iPhone with 05.11.07 baseband.
Here is a step by step guide on how to Unlock iPhone 3G/3GS using blacksn0w.
Unlock iPhone 3G/3GS 3.1.2 Firmware using blacksn0w
Note: Those who have already jailbroke using blackra1n RC1 or RC2 should just run blackra1n from your iPhone and you will notice “ra1n” option replacing Icy, just tap it and it will upgrade to blacka1n RC 3 and then start from step no. 9 below to Unlock your iPhone on 3.1.2 firmware with 05.11.07 baseband
1. Download and Install latest iTunes from Apple website.
2. Update or Restore using original iPhone 3.1.2 firmware using iTunes.
3. Now connect your iPhone to iTunes and update 3.1.2 firmware (Click here for direct download links, if you want to restore)
4. Once update complete, Download blackra1n RC3 from official site here.
5. Run BlackRa1n (make sure your device is connected)
6. Once Opened click on “make it ra1n” button
7. Your iPhone will now go into Recovery Mode and you will see GeoHot image on your iPhone instead of default recovery image.
8. Once jailbreaking process completes your iPhone will reboot and you will notice blackra1n icon on iPhone, tap that icon to launch the application.

9. You should there see “sn0w” option, tap on it and it will start Unlocking process.
10. Here you go now with Jailbroken and Unlocked iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware with 05.11.07 baseband.

After jailbreaking/unlocking the iPhone 3G, will I be able to use a different sim chip in my phone like, Central America?
Jay (January 17th, 2010)
Hey, Im a new user of an iphone and I am just about to jailbreak it, I just wanted to ask what would be better to choose, Rock, Cydia or sn0w?
Altaf Sayani (January 18th, 2010)
@Pepe
After following all the steps stated in the post above (including unlocking via sn0w) you will be able to use any SIM with your iPhone.

@jay
Rock and Cydia are third party app store, while if you want to use any other SIM with your iPhone after jailbreaking then you would have to unlock it using sn0w. In other case you can skip installing sn0w if you are using official carrier.
For Third party app store I would suggest you to install both Rock and Cydia.

Thanks. For some reason I am getting this message, “Different SIM detected, please connect to iTunes”… When I do so, I get this message from iTunes, “There was a problem with your iPhone. The iPhone you connected may be damaged and cannot be activated for service.” What can the problem be? It is Jailbroken and Unlocked because I see other Carriers but I can’t swap out the SIM chips to use here in El Salvador.. Is there something I did wrong?
