Jailbreak and Unlock iPone 3G/2G 3.1 Firmware on WindowsEarlier this morning I shared a step by step guide on how to Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone 3GS using Pwnage tool 3.1.3 but that was for Mac only as Pwnage Tool doesn’t work on Windows and neither iPhone Dev team have released redsn0w which is a jailbreaking tool for Windows.

However, I would like to share a guide on how to jailbreak iPhone 3GS 3.1 firmware on Windows using Custom Firmware (iPhone2,1_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore).

Before we start I want to thank Saad for sharing this custom firmware links of iPhone 3GS 3.1 OS.

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS Firmware 3.1

  1. First Download the following links of custom iPhone 3.1 Firmware
  2. Now join all the downloaded parts using HJSplit and you will get one archive, uncompress that archive and it contains IPSW file of firmware 3.1

    Custom iPhone 3GS 3.1 Firmware Part 2
    Custom iPhone 3GS 3.1 Firmware Part 3
    Custom iPhone 3GS 3.1 Firmware Part 4
  3. Now Install (if you haven’t already) and open iTunes 9
  4. Connect you iPhone to the PC using data cable.
  5. Choose your iPhone from devices menu on left.
  6. Now click “Resotre” while holding Shift key and select the custom IPSW file which you downloaded in step 1
  7. Now Sit back and relax until the installation process complete.
  8. After Jailbreaking your iPhone 3GS to 3.1 Firmware you can follow this guide to unlock you iPhone and use with any SIM/Carrier.

    ok so i tried this and it went fine up until I did the restore. I got an error saying restore could not be completed. error 1604. now my phone is stuck in restore mode. can someone help?

    This will NOT work with the 3GS if you allready have upgraded to 3.1 via iTunes.
    Try and yes, you will brick it.

    This is for 3G only!

    THIS will NOT work on a 3GS that has been shipped with 3.1 firmware or that has not been previously jailbroken at 3.0 or 3.0.1!

    To those who have tried this and are “stuck” in restore mode, just use iTunes to restore your original, factory firmware (3.1).

    I found a seemingly vague small post from 1 million google searches saying “Hey, if it hangs, before it goes to the 1604 error, just simply bring up your Task Manager and close the Itunes process…then, relaunch Itunes, it should see your Iphone, go through the restore again and wallah, it should work”.

    I thought: yeah right. And I was wrong…

    IT WORKED. And it worked for my wife’s Iphone too!! IT WORKS EVERY DAMN TIME!!!!!!

    HI,

    I have the iphone 3gs firmware 3.1 out of the box unlocked. I used DEV TEAMS 3.1.4 pwnage tool and got a customes.ipsw which I used to try and jailbreak the IPHONE.

    To my suprise I got an error 1604 and now my phone is stuck in restore mode. I tried to restore it a couple of times but I get an error 1604 which I cant seem to find on google to solve.

    My baseband is 05.11.07 – came with the phone.

    Kindly advise on how I can jailbreak it ONLY.

    Anyones help would be appreciated.
