October 3, 2008 – 10:58 pm
Today morning a rumor hit the internet with a bang which can’t be more bigger then that, the CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs had been rushed to ER after a serve heart attack which fortunately, claimed wrong by the Apple officials.
This wildfire news was posted by a user called “Johntw” on CNN’s citizen journalism site, iReport. According to this citizen journalist.
“Steve Jobs was rushed to the ER just a few hours ago after suffering a major heart attack.”
After getting this news the whole cyber space was buzzed with this news and Apple’s stock were also witnessed a major strike which recovered later on.
The story which reported on iReport site, which got removed afterward, stated as follow.
Steve Jobs was rushed to the ER just a few hours ago after suffering a major heart attack. I have an insider who tells me that paramedics were called after Steve claimed to be suffering from severe chest pains and shortness of breath. My source has opted to remain anonymous, but he is quite reliable. I haven’t seen anything about this anywhere else yet, and as of right now, I have no further information, so I thought this would be a good place to start. If anyone else has more information, please share it.

Silicon Alley Insider then took a follow up and made a call to Apple to confirm this news, which was denied by Katie Cotton, Vice President of Worldwide Communications, saying “It is not true.”
Now the question is did citizen journalism just fail to fulfill its responsibility? and anyone can use such websites to accomplish their culprit intentions and to spread rumors?
